Orthopedic Massage (Deep Tissue/Injury Rehab)

Orthopedic Massage (OM) describes a comprehensive system, rather than a single technique, that involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of soft tissues to resolve pain and dysfunction.  OM focuses on restoring structural balance throughout the body for both prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions.  With OM, you are an active participant in your recovery.  OM looks beyond the massage session to the origin of the pain either from trauma-induced injuries or postural imbalances that exacerbate the pain through daily activities.  Common orthopedic conditions can stem from sports injuries, postural imbalances due to poor work ergonomics, chronic pain and scar tissue from surgery or traumatic injury.

OM can be used to identify and correct conditions such as:  sciatica, scoliosis, rib pain, forward head postures, anterior scalene syndrome, Dowager’s Humps, back spasms/pain, SI joint dysfunction, cervical pain, rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, plantar fascitis, anterior compartment syndrome, shin splints, iliotibial band friction (ITB) syndrome, chondromalacia patella, whiplash injuries, compressed disks, bursitis, tendonitis/tendinosis, scar tissue issues, etc.

Orthopedic Massage is available in 30-min., 60-min., or 90-minute sessions.  Most clients prefer to wear underwear or gym shorts (men/women) and sports bra (women).  This massage work is performed on a massage table.

Shiatsu-Thai Massage

Maria infuses Shiatsu meridian work with Thai Yoga stretches.  This combination is exquisitely relaxing and energizing.  Based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine principle, these two techniques relieve a variety of maladies including back, neck and shoulder pain, muscle tightness, stress, insomnia, digestive problems and fatigue,

Shiatsu refers generally to a Japanese acupressure therapy using thumbs, fingers, palms and elbows, feet and knees.  Pressure is applied to all parts of the body along specific pathways (meridians). This technique stimulates the natural healing powers of the body so that symptoms of dis-ease lessen and vitality is regained.

Thai Yoga incorporates yoga-like stretches, in which the practitioner uses her hands, arms, legs and feet to stretch the client, relieving muscle tension, joint stiffness, stress and fatigue.

A Shiatsu-Thai session is 60- or 90-minutes and can be performed on a futon on the floor or on a massage table.  Be sure to communicate your preference!  Wear loose, comfortable, stretching clothing.

Relaxation/Wellness Massage

A full-body, blissful 60- or 90-minute Swedish massage including face, belly, hands and feet.  The massage is gentle, yet deep, and focused on deep relaxation and healing.  It is customized for your needs, and will generally include long, flowing strokes with lightly scented oil or lotion, thai-yoga stretches and shiatsu acupressure points to promote qi strengthening and removal of blockages.
